This strategic technical collaboration is directly linked to the implementation of the solution developed by Resand in Spain and Portugal. Azterlan is a leading research centre specialized in metallurgy with a strong international activity, mainly focused on Europe (Spain and Portugal).

The Basque region in northern Spain and Portugal, are both major centres of the foundry industry. "Resand's objective is to advance in the European market, region by region, starting from the most important ones. After a successful start in Germany, it is now the turn of Spain and Portugal, where we see a lot of potential. These markets have a significant foundry industry for which sand recycling and regeneration offers both cost savings and the opportunity to reduce the environmental footprint," says Kalle Härkki, CEO of Resand.

"Availability of new foundry sand is already becoming a challenge, along with the need of providing new solutions to waste management, so this advanced sand recycling technology offers a clear opportunity for the foundry industry. As a technology hub and in close collaboration with the company Resand we want to be a strong promoter of environmentally friendly practices and we see sand recycling and simultaneously reducing emissions from the foundry industry as a significant step forward in the right direction," says Xabier González, General Manager of Azterlan.

Azterlan is a private Technology Centre specialized in metallurgy, providing advanced research and testing capabilities to improve the competitiveness of companies from different metal transformation industries, with foundry technologies as a core knowledge asset. The Metallurgy Research Centre is located in Durango, Northern Spain, near the city of Bilbao.

Sand suitable for industrial use is becoming scarce. However, the extraction of virgin sand can be reduced, and the resulting loss of biodiversity slowed down by regenerating and reusing sand. Resand Oy is a Finnish technology company specialising in foundry sand regeneration, offering its customers clean sand as a service. The ResandTM solution enables almost 100% recycling of foundry sand and reduces CO2 emissions from sand use and transport by up to 80%.

Resand Oy is headquartered in Nuutajärvi, Finland, and has staff in several European countries. The company aims to achieve strong growth in the European foundry market and to expand its business outside Europe.

The ResandTM brings a solution to the global challenge by recycling sand - again and again and again. www.resand.eu
