Foundry will close Jan. 29

DANVILLE - Chem-Cast Ltd., a longtime manufacturing business, will close its doors soon.

President Jeff Craig said employees were told this week that the business's last day of operation is tentatively scheduled for Jan. 29.

Located at 1009 Lynch Road, Chem-Cast has been a supplier of sand cores to the foundry industry since 1983, when it was started by Craig's father, Ken Craig.

"Material costs, delivery costs and trying to maintain a competitive wage to keep people, combined with the pressure to maintain competitive margins in our industry, were the driving force behind our decision," Craig said.

He said other factors included the rising cost of health insurance, state taxes, workman's compensation and unemployment costs.
