Hart County officials are calling it a history making event.

Gov. Nathan Deal announced Wednesday that Germany-based Häring, a leading global manufacturer of precision components and subassemblies for the automotive industry, will locate its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Hartwell, creating 800 jobs by 2025 and investing $54 million into the project over the next five years.

“When global manufacturing companies like Häring choose to locate to Georgia, it is a testament to the international reputation of our top-ranked business climate,” said Deal. “As our state’s automotive industry grows and manufacturing companies continue to invest, I am confident that Häring will find the support it needs to successfully serve its customers around the world and remain competitive in the marketplace. I am proud to welcome Häring to Georgia.”

In order to better reach customers in the Southeast, the company will construct a 196,000-foot facility as well as a separate training center and detached dining hall at 83 Anton Haering Street in the Gateway II Industrial Park. The new facility will manufacture fuel injection parts and other precision components for the automotive industry. Some of the newly created positions will include extensive training, as well as learning German, at the company’s headquarters in Bubsheim, Germany.

“During the site selection process, it became very clear that Georgia was the best choice for us to locate our first U.S. facility,” said Häring Managing Director Andreas Lehnhofer. “I want to thank the state of Georgia and Hart County for their outstanding support and commitment. We believe that Georgia’s workforce and pro-business climate will provide the tools necessary for Häring to succeed in the U.S.”

Founded in 1961, Häring has steadily grown to become one of the leading partners of the automotive industry. Today, at its three state-of-the-art production locations in Germany, Poland and China, the company manufactures precision components and subassemblies to satisfy the demands of its customers.

More than 120 automotive manufacturers have invested more than $5 billion in the state of Georgia within the last six years. Collectively, these companies employ more than 18,000 Georgians. In FY 14, the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) supported 35 percent more automotive projects than the previous fiscal year, creating an 11 percent increase in jobs and a 149 percent increase in investment within the automotive sector over FY 13 numbers.

Bill Dobbs, director of the aerospace, defense and advanced manufacturing team at GDEcD, supported the company on behalf of the state of Georgia, along with the Hart County Industrial Building Authority and the Georgia Electric Membership Corp.

“The Hart County Board of Commissioners welcomes Häring to our community and we are excited by the outstanding career opportunities this world-class company provides for our citizens,” said Hart County Commission Chairman Joey Dorsey. “Hart County’s focus on business needs by acquiring and developing industrial land and critical infrastructure helps attract industry leaders such as Häring to our community.”

“Häring’s decision to select Hart County as its U.S. headquarters and base of operations is a huge win for local area citizens,” said Hart County Industrial Building Authority Chairman Douglas Cleveland. “This reinforces that our community’s focus on continually improving the education of our workforce and the pursuit of the Hart College & Career Academy helps to attract business to Hart County.”

“The fact that a top European automotive manufacturing company has selected Georgia to locate its first U.S.-based headquarters solidifies our position as a leader in the global marketplace,” said GDEcD Commissioner Chris Carr. “This forward-looking company is a great addition to our growing number of automotive manufacturers. Our solid logistics infrastructure, direct access to leading original equipment manufacturers and skilled talent will continue to support Häring in growing its presence in the Southeast.”
