World innovation: Oskar Frech GmbH + Co. KG introduces hot-chamber diecasting process for Aluminium

Reading time: min

With this new process Frech users stand to save a tremendous amount of time as cycle times become shorter and the quantity of returns is reduced. At the same time less energy is used because the temperature required for this process is much lower.

„Aluminium Inside" - unobtrusively tucked away behind opaque glazing which at the press of a button turned into transparent and light-permeable panes of glass - this is how Oskar Frech GmbH + Co. KG showcased its newly developed aluminium hot-chamber diecasting machine DAA 125. In many respects this marks a breakthrough for the diecasting industry!

What was Frech's intention behind this development? The answer to this question is almost obvious: to work the light metal aluminium more efficiently by harnessing the specific advantages of the hot chamber diecasting process.

Obviously, several years of research and outstanding levels of know-how and expertise in the field of cold- as well as hot-chamber diecasting are required when trying to take up a challenging task like this: "under what kind of conditions can I use certain materials and processes to overcome the aggressiveness of aluminium? Or, more succinctly put perhaps, to eliminate its aggressiveness altogether?".

The advantages of the new aluminium hot-chamber technique are remarkable:

  • Time savings: shorter cycle time when casting aluminium
  • Material savings: less returns
  • Energy savings: processing temperature for casting can be dramatically reduced
  • Lower casting pressures: which translate into reduced wear
  • New process: no plunger lubricants, no shell solidification, less air entrapped in the casting system

Oskar Frech GmbH + Co. KG aims to introduce this innovation in the year 2012.
