The stabilization of the global climate has moved in the last few months on page one of all business journals and daily newspapers. The EU Commission under Ursula von der Leyen presented a broadly supported 'Green Deal' on December 11, 2019, which aims to make the continent climate-neutral by 2050 by means of a fundamentally new economic and energy technology orientation. The fact is, much more has to be done to stop global warming.
The conversion of the energy systems is an indispensable prerequisite for this, and both the massively increasing technological range and the drastically falling prices of distributed renewable resources, efficiency systems and energy storage positions us ideally for this. The development and systematic integration of energy storage systems plays a key role here. They are the key to connecting energy supply and energy consumption across sectors and at low cost. With its trade fair, the 9th ESE conference and the 14th IRES conference, ENERGY STORAGE EUROPE makes an important contribution.
The overarching theme for 2020 is "climate protection" and the contribution that storage systems make to this. On the first day of the period (March 10, 2020), the key notes from representatives of the EU Commission and the World Bank deal with political framework conditions, while in the "The Management View" session, representatives of industry such as Bosch Managing Director Dr. Christian Fischer talk about how climate protection and business can be combined.
Climate protection requires efforts to reduce CO2 emissions through the consistent use of renewable energies. How this works in industry is shown in articles such as Dr. Keynote Volker Hille, Salzgitter AG, for the production of "green steel", but also contributions to the decarbonization of industry and trade in the "Decarbonization Hub" at the fair and in the forum. To implement all of this, a change in the energy system is necessary, which is driven by innovations and the further development of energy storage technologies.
In 2020, the IRES and ESE components of the conference will ideally complement each other: While the ESE sessions at Messe Düsseldorf will focus on business models, best practices and markets for thermal, chemical, electrical storage and power-to-X solutions in the IRES sessions of EUROSOLAR Research & Development in the above Considered technologies and also presented their combination and optimized use in energy systems.
The program is supplemented by accompanying workshops of the ESE carrier association BVES on questions of standardization / tests, legal conditions for storage and standardization processes.
