ISLAMABAD: The Engineering Development Board (EDB) has planned to prepare a 10-year Foundry Machinery Development Programme (FMDP) with the assistance of the foundry industry.
In this regard, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Imtiaz Rastgar, Vice-Chairman Advisory Committee, Ministry of Industries, Production and Special Initiatives.
It was decided that a task force for this purpose will be constituted soon and Pakistan Foundry Association (PFA) will nominate its chairman 50 per cent representation from the private sector.
The six member delegation of PFA was led by Secretary General Asim Qadri, while the EDB was headed by CEO Abdul Hafeez Chaudhry.
The Programme envisages a long-range 10 year vision for the development of the foundry industry and related expansions and up-gradations in the industry, a statement issued said.
The EDB also decided to co-sponsor the forthcoming Second International Foundry Congress and Exhibition 2007 scheduled to be held on 5-6 December in Lahore being organized by the Pakistan Foundry Association. The CEO, EDB assuring his full cooperation to the Pakistan Foundry Association and said that the Board will proactively participate in it.
Earlier, Asim Qadri, urged government support in making the congress a success. He said that this support was lacking in the first congress held last year.
He specially requested for assistance in obtaining visas for the Indian delegates. It may be recalled that a 47 member Indian delegation attended the congress last year.
Imtiaz Rastgar, Vice-Chairman Advisory Committee informed the meeting that the government has allowed import of foundry machinery from India in the current budget. He also emphasised the need of new players in the foundry sector, as it would bring investments and new technologies.
He advised that the foundry sector potential should be boosted by the EDB as it will lure foreign collaborations and investments.
