IN - Foundry is foundation stone of any machine: Tripathi

THE Institute of Indian Foundrymen (IIF), Nagpur Chapter recently organised the 68th National Foundry Day celebrations. The Institute of Indian Foundrymen works towards collective growth of the foundry industry, customers and suppliers. It is affiliated to the World Foundry Organisation and Asian Foundry Organisation. The Institute of Indian Foundrymen was founded on August 17, 1950 by five foundrymen from Liluah in Kolkata. Every year all the 26 Chapters across the nation celebrate the National Foundry Day.

Present were Anuja Sharma, Chairperson of Institute of Indian Foundrymen, Nagpur Chapter, R G Paranjape, Vice Chairperson, Sushil Sharma, Chairman of Institute of Indian Foundrymen, Western Region, Gautam Roy, Secretary of Institute of Indian Foundrymen Nagpur Chapter and Advait Vaidya, Treasurer Institute of Indian Foundrymen Nagpur Chapter.

The chief guest was Ashutosh Tripathi, CEO of Mahindra and Mahindra’s Nagpur facility. The gathering of foundrymen was welcomed by Anuja Sharma, Chairperson of Institute of Indian Foundrymen Nagpur Chapter and Director Shamlax Metachem. She told the importance of the industry association organising the family event.

Sushil Sharma shed light on the history of foundry, foundry association and the various chapters of The Institute of Indian Foundrymen. He also gave a brief idea of the various activities of the Institute of Indian Foundrymen Western Region and has planned to help foundries grow and reduce rejections with its ‘Mission Zero Defect’ and various programmes to develop the workers from the grassroots level with its Yogyata Vikas programmes and technical sessions.

R G Paranjape enlightened the gathering on why the National Foundry Day is celebrated.

Ashutosh Tripathi chief guest at the function addressed the gathering with his experience of 20 years in various automotive and farm equipment organisations. He said, foundry is the foundation stone of any machine. On importance of zero defects, he shared his examples of sending an engine to Japan for sample and receiving it back with numerous scopes of improvements.

They took the feedback seriously and made certain improvements and now, exporting engines to many countries with efforts and frugal engineering.

This year, Institute of Indian Foundrymen has introduced a ‘Kushal Worker’ award for every Chapter. The award was given based on certain criteria and guidelines. The award was handed over by Ashutosh Tripathi, CEO of Mahindra and Mahindra, Nagpur plant to Ganesh Ghanshyam Malik from Hindustan Udyog Limited, for his excellence in operations of induction melting furnaces and maintaining energy efficiency, safety and eliminating rejections.

The formal programme concluded with vote of thanks by Gautam Roy, Secretary of the Chapter.

The programme was conducted by Saurabh Mohta, Joint Secretary IIF Nagpur Chapter. The informal function began with few games by R G Paranjape.

The gathering was mesmerised by the musical programme by Dr Neel.
