Shortly after the acquisition of Hueck by Hydro, a significant investment has already been announced.

Following the takeover of the long-established Lüdenscheid-based company Hueck by the Norwegian corporation Hydro ASA, a multi-million investment is now planned. The facility on Talstraße, which now operates under the name Hydro Extrusion, will undergo extensive modernization.

According to the regional government of Arnsberg, Hydro plans to expand its aluminum smelting plant. A permit application under the Environmental Impact Assessment Act (UVPG) has been submitted. The project includes the construction of a 1,200 square meter scrap yard with a capacity of 1,400 tons, as well as a 600 square meter enclosure in front of one of the casting halls. Additionally, the facility will be equipped with an exhaust filter and chimney. The operating hours will also be extended to allow for four-shift operations, including Sundays.

To assess the project's approval, environmental impact studies have been conducted, which indicate that the project will not have significant negative environmental effects.

Hydro plans to complete the investment by the end of 2024. Dr. Thomas Herding, Plant Manager of Hydro Extrusion Lüdenscheid, expressed confidence that the timeline will be met. Once the upgrades are in place, the facility will be able to process more recycled material, meeting the growing demand for recycled aluminum and supporting sustainable production.
