Everything ingenious is simple: solutions for gripping systems
AGS GmbH offers grippers for industrial robots as gripper modules and completely installed

Grippers for industrial robots just will not let go of Franz Schwope, which is why the pioneer for modular systems is now also mounting another attack. With his new company, AGS Automation Greifsysteme Schwope GmbH, Schwope has been supplying the industry again since April 2009 with individual solutions for grippers and in doing so is following his philosophy of “everything ingenious is simple”.

800 components in the system already

Two business areas occupy a central position in the activity of AGS – the modular system and construction of complete grippers. The broad modular system, which is compatible with those of other suppliers, already includes more than 800 components for constructing grippers. Owing to the many different components, AGS customers are able to develop their grippers themselves and adapt them to their requirements. The product portfolio is based on the usual profiles, but however comes up with a large number of special solutions. An example of this is the new GFI gripping finger (right-hand picture, a competitor’s gripping finger on the left), which possesses three different finger shapes. The component dispenses in this case with clamping on the cylinder surface. This approach rules out a major source of error. Consequently, the piston can no longer jam. Clamping is performed by means of a prism. A further advantage of the AGS product is the initiator fixing. It can be integrated in the component at any position without hindering the clamping ability. Retrieval of the positions (activated/inactivated) is performed by means of a 4 mm C-groove sensor. An adapter section guarantees perfect adjustment to the contour of a part to be gripped.

The supreme discipline: construction of complete grippers

Franz Schwope

Companies who wish for complete solutions can also obtain finished grippers from AGS. The major advantage is that Schwope, with his team of currently five employees, can always find the appropriate solution to a specific problem statement. “We ponder over a task until we have found the best possible result”, Franz Schwope (picture) explains, “with this solution-oriented approach, new ideas also constantly emerge of course.“ The customers benefit from Franz Schwopes’ 30 years of experience, not only in the form of perfectly sophisticated grippers, but also through economical manufacturing costs. AGS often dispenses with the cost-intensive planning of a gripper on the “drawing board” and the company immediately proceeds to action instead. Around the problem presented by the customer, i.e. a component to be gripped, AGS builds up the gripper and therefore finds the appropriate solution straight away with direct reference to practice. Elaborate and often fruitless planning phases are therefore omitted.

The previous premises of the Bergisch Gladbach company have already become too small in the shortness of time. The first sod will be cut for the new manufacturing and assembly areas in February. Over an area of 770 m² and subsequently also with a markedly larger number of employees, AGS GmbH will then develop and market even more innovative solutions for grippers.

We will be pleased to send you pictorial material. We remain at your disposal at any time for any enquiries.
