Air Liquide

wins industrial gas supply order from Thyssenkrupp

Air Liquide said a consortium of which it is a part has won an order to supply oxygen and other industrial gases to the steelworks planned in Brazil by ThyssenKrupp SCA Companhia Siderugica, a joint venture company formed by ThyssenKrupp and Companhia Vale do Rio Doce.

As part of the deal the consortium, which also includes White Martins, a subsidiary of Praxair, and ThyssenKrupp MinEnergy, a unit of ThyssenKrupp, will invest 100 mln eur in constructing gas separation units with an output of 3,000 tonnes of oxygen per day, it added.

Air Liquide Brazil will build and operate the units, which will be jointly held by White Martins and Air Liquide, it said.

The joint venture between the German steelmaker and the Brazilian mining group plans to build a new steelworks 60 kilometres to the south of Rio de Janeiro, which will go into service at the beginning of 2009 and is expected to produce 5 mln tonnes of steel per year.
