The ambitious conference “Leichtbau in Guss 2008” took place in Nürnberg this time, on the 13th and 14th of October. With about 60 participants a well visited lecture event!

Focus of the event:

  • Development and choice of alloys
  • Casting process and its influence on material characteristics
  • Effective casting by using simulation software
  • Lightweight construction in the practice

The members got a great overview about the current magnesium and aluminium alloys and its application area from companies like for example Aluminium Rheinfelden.

It has been conveyed trends from the optimisation and further development of casting processes and its advantages of casting-quality by foundries like Dynacast, Feinguss Blank, KSM Castings, the light metal foundry of BMW and Georg Fischer.

The company Oskar Frech reported about modern diecasting-methods for best tool and quality properties of complex components from light metal.

Lively discussions brought also the topic simulation, which has been shown by ESI and Magma.

Also the lecture about magnesium die-casting by Diehl Metall awakend special interest. The topic magnesium has been reviewed in an optimal way by the company MagXperts. The company Ketterer Druckguss informed the participants about the details from its production activities.

Further announcements came from Prof. Kallien / Hochschule Aalen and from the moderator and co-host Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hoffmann.

Highlight after Mr. Hördler`s (Honsel)  speech  was the visit at Honsel AG in Nürnberg. Visitors got insights into the quality-management and the single process-lines from  melting over the in-house toolmaking till the handling from series production parts.

In summary a well organised, interesting and successful event. Particullary in the nice brewhouse “Barfüßer” in the city of Nürnberg the right place for for technical interchange. A brilliant amusement caused the fairy Jeanette von Wunder, who really fascinated with her incredible legerdemains.
