Tiroler Rohre GmbH (TRM), with over 75 years of experience as one of the leading producers of pipes and piles made of ductile cast iron, is breaking new ground: to meet the increasing requirements in the area of energy efficiency, the company is relying on an AI solution from the Viennese software start-up nista.

Focus on energy efficiency

In recent years, the topic of energy has become increasingly important from both an economic and an ecological point of view. To remain at the forefront of the industry, the Tyrolean family-owned company has been relying on nista, an AI-based energy management solution, since the beginning of this year. ‘In many companies with a long history, potential savings often remain hidden,’ explains Benjamin Mörzinger, founder of the Viennese start-up: ‘Our software precisely identifies anomalies in energy consumption and directly indicates possible causes’.

Immediate success through AI

The introduction of nista has already had a noticeable effect on TRM. ‘We were able to implement specific savings within five weeks using AI-supported analysis,’ reports Georg Kloger, a plant and automation engineer at TRM. ‘The measures have not only improved our cost structure, but also enabled us to make a further positive contribution to the responsible use of energy.’

The Austrian Energy Agency estimates that energy management can achieve average energy savings of 10 to 20 per cent. Mörzinger adds: ‘AI enables a huge acceleration of data analysis. It also uncovers potential that simply remains hidden with traditional solutions’.

AI as the key to the energy transition?

The collaboration between a traditional industrial company and an innovative start-up shows how artificial intelligence can build a bridge between technology and practice. The use of AI in industry is more than just a trend – it is a decisive factor for the competitiveness and sustainability of companies. In the context of the energy transition, this type of digitalisation offers enormous opportunities to reduce emissions and further reduce the use of fossil fuels.

Important infrastructure in the background

Pipelines are indispensable in our everyday lives. Whether it's drinking water supply, fire water systems or snowmaking systems, the underlying systems often work unnoticed but are indispensable. Their quality determines reliability and durability. That is why TRM uncompromisingly relies on the highest quality standards in production to ensure sustainable and reliable solutions.
