Australia - Foundry workers striking the metal

Reading time: min

WORKERS at a metal foundry in Sydney are on strike, disputing a new enterprise bargaining agreement.

The 120 workers at Intercast and Forge are refusing to link improved productivity and a pay rise.
The foundry supplies Toyota, Ford and Holden, amongst other clients, although the strike action will not be having an immediate impact on the car makers.

According to management, the strike is likely to mark the company as being an unreliable supplier, scaring off international customers.

The Australian Workers’ Union says the company is threatening the workers’ entitlements under the pretence of driving productivity.
