Two years ago the Institute of Metal Forming and Casting (UTG) in Munich organised the Barbara-congress on Bavarian ground in honour of the saint Barbara for the first time.

Because of the foundrymen’s positive responce this year the organizers from UTG decided to expand the congress-program into two series of lectures.
The first one concentrated on non-ferrous casting focused on the subject material-characterisation. Developments and trends of non-ferrous casting were discussed by speakers of UTG and the company Kurtz.
The second series focused on moulding sands and refractory materials by ferrous casting. Current problems as sand raclamation has been discussed and new process technologies to solve them has been shown.
In addition to the lectures lots of participants used the opportunity to visit the UTG-institute.
Right after the congress the foundry-evening took place. This was a widely welcomed opportunity to expand contacts and to discuss further subjects in a relaxed atmosphere.
