BASF and Austria's Voestalpine Stahl

develop non-toxic steel passivation product

<font face="arial, geneva, helvetica" size="2">BASF AG said it has joined forces with Austria's Voestalpine Stahl GmbH to develop a steel passivation compound for use in conversion coatings on galvanised steel.</font>

<font face="arial, geneva, helvetica" size="2">Passivation improves corrosion resistance of unpainted metal surfaces.</font>

<font face="arial, geneva, helvetica" size="2">The compound, which is chromium and fluoride free, has been launched following successful tests, said the company in a statement.</font>

<font face="arial, geneva, helvetica" size="2">BASF declined to comment on production capacity and peak sales potential of the product. <br></font>
