BSL Casting, specializing in the casting of parts up to 2000 lbs in all steel alloys, has succeeded finalizing multiple weldment conversion projects into one-single steel casting piece.
Attached is a nice example of a differential housing used by a customized railcart manufacturer that was originally made from a truck differential housing and modified locally onsite.
BSL Casting had the original part scanned and the FEA analysis made during the conception of the cast part drawing. Enabling BSL Casting to assure sufficient wall thickness (among other specs) to have the differential housing support the required weight.
The new one-single cast piece is now much stronger than the original weldment part.
Finally, the bolt circle flange at both end has enabled the manufacturer to bolt the spindles on the housing instead of the former procedure to weld them on it. Allowing the end customer to only replace the spindle when it breaks while they originally used to replace the whole differential housing assembly when the spindles (welded at both ends) broke.
