Buhler
achieves satisfactory business result in 2009

The Buhler Technology Group looks back upon a satisfactory course of business in 2009. Considering the economic environment and compared to other players in the industry, the decline in new orders was limited. On the other hand, the differences between various products and markets were considerable.

Buhler received new orders for just under CHF 1.8 billion in 2009, which despite the economic downturn was merely 5.5% below the level of the good previous year. However, business developed along very different lines according to the specific products and markets: In the basic food units such as Grain and Rice, Buhler continued its growth. On the other hand, order intake declined sharply in the field of higher-value foods such as Chocolate as well as in Automotive (Die Casting). Variations were also wide in geographical terms. In Europe including Eastern Europe, the intake of new orders plunged due to weak demand. This contrasts sharply with the Americas (North and South) and Asia, but especially Africa, where growth was substantial.

On a global scale, Buhler is likely to have once more gained market share in 2009. Thanks to cost reductions and groupwide capacity balancing, profits are expected to be good. In February, Buhler will celebrate its 150-year anniversary and faces the future with confidence in view of its strong market position.

Buhler is a global leader in the supply of process engineering solutions, especially production technologies for making foods and engineering materials. Buhler operates in over 140 countries and has some 7500 employees worldwide.
