Globally the accepted emission levels for new vehicles is being driven ever lower, with car manufacturers focusing on lightweight design and energy efficiency to meet the legislative requirements. One area of specific focus is the downsizing of engines whilst retaining power output, in many cases utilising low weight aluminium blocks with grey iron cylinder liners.
Foseco will be displaying a technology package for the process of manufacturing grey cast iron cylinder liners. The manufactured liners exhibit a special surface structure, this surface texture enables the casting to be directly cast into the aluminium block by gravity die casting as well as pressure die casting processes.
