More than 700 professionals from across the globe – including representatives from China, the USA, Germany, Switzerland, India, Thailand, and Taiwan – gathered to explore the latest trends and technologies in the global die casting industry.
Focus on Magnesium – Spotlight on Lightweight Construction
Mr. Lou Yanchun, Chairman of the Foundry Institution of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (CMES), Chief Scientist of the China National Machinery Research Institute Group, and President of the World Foundry Organization (WFO), opened the conference with an inspiring keynote. He emphasized the transformative power of eco-friendly manufacturing and highlighted the explosive growth of new energy vehicles (NEVs) as a driving force behind innovation in lightweight technologies.
A central theme was the growing importance of magnesium alloys, which saw 32% market growth in China in 2023 alone. With a 30% lower density and 20% higher tensile strength compared to aluminum, magnesium offers vast potential for the automotive industry. Use cases such as the NIO ET5 car body and Huawei’s smart cockpit structures demonstrate how magnesium is unlocking billion-dollar markets.
