Gerd Röders, President of WVMetalle: “The WVMetalle Executive Committee is delighted to have Dr. Niese on board in his new role as Managing Director. He will continue to contribute his experience, his network and his extensive industry knowledge and, with the support of the Executive Committee, will continue to modernize the association's work and further develop WVMetalle as a reliable voice for the political representation of interests in Berlin and Brussels.”
Dr. Michael Niese has been Managing Director of WVMetalle since 2015, including as Head of the European Office in Brussels from 2016 to 2019. Prior to his time as Managing Director, Dr. Niese, who holds a doctorate in economics, worked at Aurubis for several years. As an experienced association and political professional, he is very familiar with representing political interests in Berlin and Brussels.
Dr. Michael Niese thanks the Executive Committee for the trust they have placed in him: “I am delighted to take over the new role from Franziska Erdle, who has led the WVMetalle in a difficult environment. It is an honor for me to take on more responsibility for WVMetalle in economically and politically challenging times. The global trends of decarbonization, the circular economy and the strategic autonomy of Europe, as well as the realignment of WVMetalle as an efficient association, are on the agenda.”
Association President Gerd Röders paid tribute to the work of Franziska Erdle: “Franziska Erdle is leaving the association after a successful nine-year term of office. Under her leadership, the WVMetalle has developed into a powerful association that is characterized in particular by its modern political communication and speed of action. The Executive Committee would like to thank Ms. Erdle for her outstanding achievements and wishes her all the best for the future.
