Electric mobility is an important topic of the future for the automotive industry. Electric vehicles are considered one important step towards reducing the world's dependency on crude oil and CO2 emissions. Political parties, the automotive industry and various associations strongly believe in the flourishing future of the electric vehicle in the middle-term future. According to estimates there will be over one million electric vehicles in Germany by 2020. Electric mobility will pave the way for new fields of business for automobile manufacturers, suppliers and the energy business alike: from the establishment of a suitable infrastructure to production and finally the recharging of battery-powered vehicles.
The trade fair eCarTec will take place at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre from October 13 through 15, 2009 under the patronage of Martin Zeil, Bavarian State Minister for Economics, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology. eCarTec 2009 will present electric vehicles, storage technologies, drive and engine technology and will also cover the topics of energy, infrastructure and financing. The trade fair focuses on a specialist audience such as decision makers from politics, public authorities and end consumers. Moreover, the eCarTec Award will be granted in five categories: The organizers seek to award the most innovative and promising projects, products or technologies from the field of electric mobility.
"With eCarTec and its accompanying conference we are establishing a new platform in Germany’s trade fair landscape that deals exclusively with the topic of electric mobility. There has not yet been an event of this kind", says Robert Metzger, Managing Director at MunichExpo Veranstaltungs GmbH and organizer of eCarTec. "Enjoyment of driving is a key purchasing motive for end consumers and has today become reality as a result of considerable progress made in battery development. The Tesla Roadster, a battery-driven electric car, features improved power and handling and does naught to 100 km per hour in just four seconds. It has a top speed of 200 km per hour and can cover a distance of 400 km. What is more, it produces no exhaust fumes whatsoever. Only those who are at the cutting edge of this trend can benefit from this promising market. And the sales potential is in fact high. We are therefore very happy that we were able to welcome over 150 companies to the eCarTec premiere. ADAC, Continental, E.ON, EcoCraft, EDAG, Extra Energy ISEKI, Kokam, Leclanche, Li-Tec, Lord Automobile, RUF Automobile, Siemens, Vattenfall or Zytek are just a few examples of renowned exhibitors."

eCarTec proving ground
Apart from the mere exhibition space, the proving ground represents the centerpiece of eCarTec. At the proving ground with a length of 500 meters, visitors to the trade fair will get a chance to discover what electric mobility is all about – either on the passenger seat of a Tesla Roadster, a Porsche eRUF or behind the wheel of different electric motorbikes and scooters. "Enthusiasm is fuelled by experience", explains Robert Metzger, Managing Director at MunichExpo Veranstaltungs GmbH and organizer of eCarTec. We seek to overcome the former image of ecologically friendly cars and wish to let our visitors have fun, experience their emotions and help them make buying decisions for the future." MELEX offers all visitors who visit the trade fair by subway a free electric shuttle service to the trade fair entrance and the proving ground.
1. International eCarTec conference for individual electric mobility
In close cooperation with Bayern Innovativ and its clusters automotive, rail engineering, chemistry, power engineering, power electronics, mechatronics & automation and new materials, an accompanying conference on the topic of individual electric mobility will be held from October 13 - 14, 2009. "The scheduled conference program focuses on several interesting topics for the participants of this conference. The conference and the respective trade fair eCarTec also complement the activities of the Bavarian State Government which provides major support for this topic with its "electric mobility initiative", says Martin Zeil, patron of the event. Representatives of Continental, Daimler, E.ON and Volkswagen, to just mention a few, will provide information about technological challenges and the development of electric vehicles, energy storage, provision of energy and distribution as well as drive and mobility concepts for electric mobility. Prof. Dr. Ing. Gernot Spiegelberg from Siemens AG will be giving a lecture about e-mobility – technologies for integral traffic concepts of the future, Prof. Dr. Ing. Horst E. Friedrich (DLR e.V.) will deal with the topic of "vehicle concepts and lightweight design" and Dr. Thomas Schlick, member of the association of the automotive industry, will tell us about "mobility from the automotive industry’s point of view". The conference fee is € 790.00 per person, the fee for colleges, universities and scientific institutions is € 390.00 per person.

Free participation for trade fair visitors: The eCarTec Forum takes place every day in the eCarTec Hall. Current product and technical developments, trends and market analyses from the most different fields of electric mobility will be outlined in presentations and discussion rounds. Synergy effect
The leading trade fair for material applications, MATERIALICA – 12th international trade fair for material applications, surfaces and product engineering – will take place alongside eCarTec. MATERIALICA attracted over 7,000 visitors to Munich in 2008. The large percentage of representatives of the automotive industry will ensure an important synergy effect. MATERIALICA considers itself a link between the engineering and supply industry.
