Reading time: min

Auto Shanghai is being staged from April 21 to 29, 2013, at the Shanghai New International Exhibition Center in China. At the German pavilion and on a space of just under 100 m², KSPG AG along with its subsidiaries Pierburg China Ltd. and MS Motor Service Asia Pacific Co., Ltd. are among the exhibitors (Hall N4 Booth C041). Under the motto Clean und Lean, the German first-tier supplier is showcasing products for emission reduction as well as OEM-quality parts as included in the IMA program (Industrial, Marine and Agriculture applications). In this way, the Group will help ensure compliance with the tighter Chinese exhaust gas regulations coming into force in Beijing starting from March 1 this year.

Around 1.7 million cars were sold in China in January 2013. Say the statistics, one in four of the population has a car. In view of the situation and according to a declaration by the Environmental Protection Bureau of the city of Beijing, dated January 23, as from March 1 a new exhaust gas norm will take effect in the capital. It is called Beijing 5 and will be in line with the Euro 5, which will be replaced in Europe in 2016 by Euro 6.

By attending this event, KSPG is emphasizing its presence in China and showcasing a broadly varying product lineup with focus on the reduction of fuel consumption and emissions. Contributing toward this objective are products such as exhaust-gas recirculation systems, throttle and other valves as well as on-demand pumps. Also helping to make today’s engines cleaner are the Group’s lightweight pistons with new coating technologies for less friction as well as high-duty plain bearings.

The subsidiaries, Pierburg Pump Technology GmbH and KS Gleitlager GmbH, are showing state-of-the-art pump technologies and plain bearings for the newest applications. Other exhibition highlights are the model of a range extender for electric vehicles as well as the Univalve valve train system.

KSPG in China

At the end of last year, this globally operating first-tier supplier opened its KSPG House in Zhangjiang (Pudong District) as a center for all the Group’s wholly-owned Chinese subsidiaries. Alongside Pierburg and Motor Service, there is also the Chinese subsidiary of KS Gleitlager plus the Pierburg Mikuni Pump Technology joint venture in which KSPG holds a majority stake. KS Kolbenschmidt GmbH’s large-bore piston unit will set up a branch here for Asia as well as its own production base in China.

Since 1997, the Group has been represented on the Chinese market with two joint ventures and presently employs around 3,500 people in China at altogether six locations. In 2012, these joint ventures (50/50 percent) generated sales of around €390 million (+30% compared to 2011).

Besides this and over the past years, KSPG has established several 100-percent subsidiaries in China. With these and in addition to the existing joint ventures, the Group will then in future also operate as an independent entity on the local auto market. Pierburg China at a newly built location in Kunshan is manufacturing exhaust-gas recirculation systems and, this spring, will go ahead with the production of throttle bodies for the Chinese market.
