The international die casting experts meet at EUROGUSS in the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg from 19–21 January 2010. For three whole days, the talks on the stands of the some 300 exhibitors will be geared to die casting technology, processes and products. About 6,000 trade visitors are expected. The International Die Casting Congress with an extensive programme of presentations takes place parallel to the exhibition. “Although the die casting industry is currently experiencing a trough due to its close connection with the automotive industry, I am sure we will emerge from the crisis as winners,” says Dr. Gotthard Wolf, Member of the Executive Board of the Association of the German Foundry Industry, the Bundesverband der Deutschen Gießerei-Industrie (BDG), looking optimistically to the future.

“The R&D departments of our companies are currently working flat out on developing innovative products. The foundry industry will continue its growth course in the medium term and assert itself against worldwide competition,” Wolf continues. EUROGUSS is the biggest event that shows the complete die casting value creation chain. This makes it the right platform for exchanging views on current trends and developments in the industry. EUROGUSS 2010 takes place for the first time in halls 7 and 7A. This ideal hall combination is the best possible guarantee of intensive dialogue for the EUROGUSS community. The date of the event in January, i.e. two months earlier than previously, is also new.

Study “DIE CASTING 2020”: German foundries “weatherproof”

German foundries are globally competitive and technology leaders in the various casting processes, according to the main findings of the study “DIE CASTING 2020”, which was compiled by the ifo Institute for Economic Research at Munich University and presented in autumn 2008. The German foundry industry is currently the clear leader in Europe and fifth in the world ranking after China, the USA, Russia and Japan. The main customer for cast products will remain automotive engineering in the future. Good growth rates are expected in this segment in the emerging and transition countries. The DIE CASTING study sees growth prospects in power production, especially in the wind power industry. The demand for cast products in the machinery manufacturing sector is expected to decline in the medium term. The building industry offers future prospects for the foundry industry in the area of maintenance investment. The production emphases of cast products have changed strongly between regions since the mid 90s. The share of worldwide casting production held by the BRIC countries has increased from 33 per cent in 1995 to   52 per cent in 2006.
