Also the 5th International PhD conference, part of the 45th Foundry Days, was held at the same time. As the name indicates, young doctorands from Central Europe meet in Brno to exchange experience and to talk about the topics they deal with at their colleges.

“This year’s conference includes 32 lectures by participants from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary and Poland”, informed Milan Horáček, teacher of the Brno VUT, Vice-Chairman of the Czech Foundry Society and main organizer of the conference. „Official language is English. The conference is the only event of its sort in the foundry industry in our country and also a preview of the next year, when we want to stage not only its sixth run and the 46th Foundry Days in Brno, but also a <link http: www.wtf2009.cz _blank external-link-new-window>World Technical Forum.“

This should take place from June 1 to 3, 2009 at the Holiday Inn Hotel. From the point of view of history, it will be the third meeting of founders at a world level. The first was implemented before World War II and in 1986 the 53rd World Foundry Congress was held in Czechoslovakia.

Immediately after entering Hall Z, Visitors to the FOND-EX Fair were attracted by a sports car in red. This functional prototype is the result of a two-year project StudentCar implemented by the Faculty of Metallurgy and Material Engineering VŠB – TU Ostrava.

The Exhibition of patterns and castings is a traditional part of the International Foundry Fair documenting a high quality of products. In addition to important foundries two automobiles as representatives of the branch - users of a substantial part of foundry production were presented.

Sports car which the students of the <link http: en.vsb.cz _blank>TU Ostrava built in their leisure of the building-block system of the firm Kaipan is also an invitation to the study of technical professions and an eye-catcher of the new field Materials and technology for the automotive industry which will be opened in Ostrava in 2008/2009 as a three-year bachelor study.
