The foundry, currently located in Charlotte, North Carolina, decided that a move was necessary to support the needs of this ever-growing company and surrounding community. The new, state-of-the-art facility will be built on a 428-acre property in Oakboro, NC. Inside the new cast iron foundry, GK will have responsibility for the furnace charge system, as well as the equipment from the end of the molding line through the cleaning room.

General Kinematics has worked with Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Company for decades and is thrilled to continue their partnership throughout this expansive project.

"Everyone at General Kinematics is excited for Charlotte Pipe as they begin the huge undertaking of relocating their foundry operations.” Said Tom Musschoot, President of General Kinematics. “I am appreciative of the trust that the team at Charlotte Pipe has put in our company and am proud that General Kinematics gets to be part of this historic move."

Jim Egan, Vice President of North America Sales for General Kinematics, continued:

“The Charlotte Pipe team is an experienced group of foundry experts with high standards. For them to recognize our foundry team’s efforts through this extensive planning process is validation that we are meeting our customers’ needs. Now we can begin to deliver on their trust.”

“With our industry veterans, Claude Hutchens and Rick Kempf spearheading these efforts, we are confident that GK will deliver the quality results that we are known for,” said Musschoot.

The project is set to span two years, with a projected end date of the third quarter of 2023.

General Kinematics would like to express gratitude to Charlotte Pipe for allowing the GK team to support them in this historic endeavor. General Kinematics looks forward to this project’s continued development and working together to create a new standard for innovative foundry systems.
