GER - AMB expects visitor record

Reading time: min

The organiser of German metal-working fair AMB has announced that a record number of people will attend this year’s show thanks to continued growth in the industry.

Messe Stuttgart said more than 90,000 visitors are expected to push through AMB turnstiles between 18 and 22 Sept., an indication of the on-going strength of the mechanical engineering sector. Some 86,000 people attended the last fair in 2010, the organiser said, with 11% of them having come from outside Germany.

Rising interest in the regional show could help propel it into the top league, according to Ulrich Kromer, managing director of Messe Stuttgart. He said he expects this year’s AMB to allow the exhibition to “finally establish itself as the leading European trade fair for the machine- and precision tool industry every second year”.

Demand for exhibition space has been high, Kromer said. “We could have filled one or two more standard-sized halls, something we unfortunately don’t have.”

Increased demand for floor space and rising attendance are further indications of the importance of the German state of Baden-Württemberg for this industry, Kromer noted. “Baden-Württemberg is at the heart of machine tool manufacture here in Germany; around half of all German mechanical engineering companies and their suppliers are located here.”

According to Kromer, international exhibitors have the advantage of easily contacting potential customers from Baden-Württemberg. International visitors also stand to benefit, he added. “In addition to the large variety of large international and German exhibitors, there is also often a great selection of smaller, highly specialised and extremely interesting companies who only exhibit at AMB.“
