German foundries expect stable turnover in 2008

Reading time: min

German <link _top>foundries estimate the end of the year stable. Turnover of 14 billion euro is expected, informed Bundesverband der Deutschen Gießerei-Industrie (BDG) on 22.October in Düsseldorf. BDG represents 610 <link _top>foundries with 87.000 workers.

BDG is cautious by forecast for 2009 due to financial crisis and economic slow-down. Also growing energy and <link _top>material costs, as well as higher wage demand from IG Metall, slow down the mood, says BDG president Hans-Dieter Honsel.

On the one hand Honsel expects slowing orders from automotive and construction industry and shipbuilding. On the other hand large-scale plant-manufacturers and shipbuilders, as well as wind power industry, has filled the order books for the future.

"<link _top>Foundries will continue the expansion in the medium and long term", Honsel expressed optimistically.
