German Foundry Day 2014 in Hamburg

The German Foundry Day 2014 in Hamburg generated 630 participants on the 15th and 16th of May, where visitors were able to gain useful information from 22 different lectures held at the Congress Center in Hamburg. The lectures covered the latest developments in the foundry industry and the new division of talks towards the end of the second day was well received by participants as this provided for an ideal networking opportunity.

The current standing of the foundry industry was highlighted in the full program, including from Dr. Erwin Flender,President of BDGuss. In his lecture, "Challenges to German foundry industry in international competition”, he addresses that the German foundry industry needs to be better in international competition.

Prof. Dr. -Ing. Andreas Bührig - Polaczek , Professor at the Foundry Institute of RWTH Aachen University, presented "Ultra lightweight hybrid composite by casting", describing the potential that lies in this particular subject.

Dipl.- Hdl. Heiko Lickfett from the Federation of the Germany Foundry Industry (BDG) aimed to stir up foundrymen with his "Look at the bigger picture: Which factors have an influence on customer markets in the foundries?". But many foundries still have to wonder, why is business still being lost? Metalcasters were able to relate and understand to reasons for this, which was pointed out by Heiko Lickfett in his presentation. 

The evening program near the Port of Hamburg at a location called Schuppen 52 offered participants the great opportunity to connect and network.
