GIFA: Follow the ecoMetals Trails at The Bright World of Metals

The "green thread": ecoMetals - Focus on energy-saving metal production

Reading time: min

Ecological sustainability, technical innovation and economic competitiveness: These are the three major themes of ecoMetals, which will be of great significance at this year's GIFA, METEC, THERMPROCESS and NEWCAST. In order to make the industry future-proof, an environmentally friendly metal cycle is necessary.

Metal production accounts for a large proportion of the ecological footprint of mankind. In Germany alone, metal production required 250,000 megawatt hours in 2016. A reduction in energy consumption is therefore not only important with regard to environmental and climate protection, however, it can also reduce expenditure on energy.

Efficiency in extraction, production and recycling
The metal industry has optimisation possibilities in many areas: New electrical melting processes with state-of-the-art control technology reduce energy consumption in the double-digit percentage range. Water consumption and water pollution can be minimised through local cycles. ThyssenKrupp, for example, is already successfully implementing this approach. The resulting gases or slags are not necessarily waste, but raw materials for other industries and products. Through a comprehensive analysis, optimisation potentials can be identified and subsequently improved.

Every day between 25 and 29 June, there will be four guided tours in which trained tour guides will take you to the ecoMetals stands. If you would like to get to know the ecoMetals exhibitors of THERMPROCESS and METEC, please join a guided tour at 10 am or 2 pm. The companies targeted here are Advanced Energy Industries GmbH, celano GmbH, Himmelwerk Hoch- und Mittelfrequenzanlagen GmbH, Otto Junker GmbH, Kueppers Solutions GmbH, Lechler GmbH, LOI Thermprocess GmbH, Tenova S.P.A., Schunk GmbH, Vulkan-Verlag GmbH and WS-Wärmeprozesstechnik GmbH.

Guided tours to the exhibitors at the GIFA and NEWCAST trade fairs start at 10.30 am and 2.30 pm. Here you can visit, amongst others, the stands and experts of ASK Chemicals GmbH, BDG (Bundesverband der Deutschen Gießerei-Industrie - German Foundry Industry Association), Bühler AG, Didion International Inc, Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Applied Materials Research IFAM, Hüttenes-Albertus, Oskar Frech GmbH + Co KG, KMA Umwelttechnik GmbH, Norican Group ApS, Vesuvius GmbH, Fritz Winter Eisengießerei GmbH & Co. KG, xpuris GmbH and Zanardi Fonderie S.p.A.

All tours start at Entrance North, Stand EN 03 (Metal Flow Alliance World Wide). Participation is free of charge for exhibitors as well as for all (trade) visitors with a one-day or multiple-day ticket. You can either register for the guided tours in advance or simply come spontaneously to the meeting point to accompany the group.
