With the construction of two innovation centers, Hüttenes-Albertus Chemische Werke GmbH (HA for short) has implemented its vision for the future. The opening of a new research and development center in Hanover and the HA Center of Competence in Baddeckenstedt on 24 November 2017 marks a milestone in the history of the foundry chemistry specialist.

"The path to new, customer-focused products is through effective research and devel-opment," explains Dr. med. Carsten Kuhlgatz, Managing Director of Hüttenes-Albertus Chemische Werke GmbH. But for HA this is just one side of innovation. "As we want to offer our customers well-engineered and practical solutions to problems, we are focus-ing on a second important pillar: a foundry technical center with facilities for practical testing and technological cooperation with our customers and partners," says Kuhlgatz.

State-of-the-art laboratory and excellent scientists
Covering more than 2,500 square meters, the new laboratory building offers space for basic research, application development and analytics. Up to 50 highly qualified R & D staff have an ideal environment for research, experiments and intensive exchange of ideas.

The company employs more than 140 research and development employees worldwide. In order to bring the expertise of nationally and internationally active scientists and experts together and to make the best possible use of it, the intensive technology ex-change within the global HA Group will also be promoted from here.

Foundry competence center for product and process development
In Baddeckenstedt, HA has established a unique foundry competence center for product and process development in recent months. The HA Center of Competence (CoC) has almost 8,000 m2 of pilot and industrial facilities that represent virtually all the process steps in a foundry. New ideas and solutions for almost all forming and core manufacturing processes can be tested in practice here, without affecting the processes for our customers.

A comprehensive machine park offers the opportunity to optimize the interaction of foundry chemistry and machine technology. HA cooperates with practically all well-known manufacturers of foundry plants. Facilities include:

- Melting and casting plants
- core shooting machines for cold box, inorganic and other core production process
- Sand mixing plants for the cold box and inorganics process
- Continuous mixer for the No-bake process
- Simple cell including robot handling
- Drying oven with special skills
- extensive measuring technology

In addition to testing new and enhanced products, HA offers its customers valuable services for their process development, from design concept development of cores and tools to feasibility studies and robotics. Last but not least, the CoC will also serve as a training center for employees and customers from around the world.
