India - BHEL to foray into nuclear power equipment production

Public sector undertaking, Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) is embarking on a massive expansion plan to improve its manufacturing capacity to 20,000 mega watt by 2012 and foray into nuclear power equipment production like generators, turbines and nuclear reactors together with its joint venture partners. 

The announcement comes close on the heels of queries raised by sections of the power ministry over the company`s ability to fulfill its obligations in view of the massive capacity augmentation program during the eleventh plan.

Further, the company plans to source castings and forgings from China by March 2009 and has decided to set up office at Shanghai for the same. Additionally, it also has plans to develop a working relationship with Chinese suppliers.
