Indiana foundry plans to hire 52 workers

Reading time: min

A northern Indiana foundry plans to capitalize on the auto industry crisis, hiring 52 workers to expand its product lineup to fill market voids.  Auburn-based Metal Technologies Auburn LLC plans to fill a combination of full-time and temporary positions.

Senior Vice President Jeff Turner says an investment exceeding $1.5 million will position the company to fill auto-industry niches likely to be vacated by struggling suppliers.  The company, which employs about 140, already manufactures gray iron castings for the construction, automotive and appliance industries.  Turner says hiring is expected to start soon at the plant in DeKalb County, which had an unemployment rate of 14.3 percent in March.
