The international metal and steel trade fair for southeast asia scheduled to open on 20 February at JI Expo, will begin on a highly positive note with strong support from leading international companies and experts in their fields.

A biennial trade exhibition, indometal’s internationality has been confirmed by the following figures: more than 250 exhibiting companies, over 75% booked by foreign exhibitors including significant market leaders from Austria, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and Japan. Some 40 companies will be showcasing newly launched and/or enhanced products at indometal 2013. In addition, the indotools showcase - a dedicated platform on equipment, tooling and machinery solutions has also been positively received.

At today’s indometal press conference, joint organizers of indometal – Messe Düsseldorf Asia and PT. WAKENI, announced that excellent numbers have been recorded by the exhibiting floor space occupied principally by metallurgical technology, plant equipment, steel mills, and thermoprocess technology and foundry machinery sectors.

The strength in indometal is in its consolidated international outlook as seen in the global participation of six national pavilions and country groups from Austria, China, Italy, Taiwan and United Kingdom, and outstanding support from twelve trade associations and local government agencies that include the Ministry of Industry Republic of Indonesia, Indonesian Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Association of Indonesian Metal Foundry (APLINDO), Federation of Indonesian Metalworks & Machinery Industries Association (GAMMA), and more.

As Indonesia continues to invest in the iron and steel industry with focus on developing its processing industries as set by the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Republic of Indonesia, indometal provides an ideal platform for exhibitors to better understand the region and its target markets. A significant highlight at indometal will be the value-add seminar which includes two keynote addresses by the Ministry of Industry, Republic of Indonesia on “The Development of Upstream Industries Based on Metal Mineral” and by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources on “Primary Energy to Support the Development of Smelter Industry in Indonesia”.

Both topics come against the backdrop of an economic climate marked by contrasting signs of recovery but where the global demand for iron and steel continues at speed and where emerging economies like Indonesia are becoming the vanguard of modern industrial progression and have large resource requirements to fuel their market growth.

“With emerging economies’ growth expected to boost demand for many metal and steel commodities in the medium term, many producers are seeking to move closer to their target markets. As many major industry sectors are represented on the indometal 2013 show floor, the exhibition promises to be one of the most dynamic in its field and increasingly strategic as focus for the metal and steel industries shifts from mature economies to emerging economies,” said Gernot Ringling, Managing Director of Messe Düsseldorf Asia.

“The prospects for a high performing trade fair in the iron and steel sector are very promising in Indonesia. indometal will be an effective commercial channel for local businesses and for the international community to get a better understanding of the market developments in Indonesia and the region,” said Ringling.

According to Rini Sumardi, Director of PT. WAKENI: “With Indonesia paving the way to meet its 2025 vision of being a strong industrial nation focusing on high growth industries particularly automotive and electronics, capital goods industries – machinery and shipping, nature resource based industry – steel, aluminium and related upstream industries, the timing could not be better to bring international companies closer to the action and for local Indonesian companies to build business networks and sales leads.“

“Some 25% of exhibitors are local Indonesian companies many of whom are manufacturers and producers of cost-efficient and high-technology equipment as well as downstream suppliers of high-quality finished iron and steel products,” she added.

The first edition of indometal, which takes place between 20 to 23 February, will also include a rich calendar of seminars and conferences dedicated to some of the most current issues affecting metal and steel processing and manufacturing including:

  • Experts’ Conference: New technologies for strip processing (20 February, organized by ANDRITZ METALS)
  • Innovative Technologies for Metal and Steel (20 February, organized by Alpine Metal Tech Group, BRAUN Maschinenfabrik GmbH, Eisenbeiss GmbH, Framag Industrieanlagenbau GmbH)
  • The Development of Mineral Downstream in Indonesia (21 February, organized by APLINDO, WAKENI and Messe Düsseldorf Asia), including presentations by exhibitors of indometal 2013 on topics such as: Thickness & Coating Weight Measuring Systems for the Metal Industry (by Spektris Metalab), Induction Melting and Heating for the 21st Century (by Inductotherm), Resin for sand mould is the best solution to produce precision casting for Automotive (by the World Foundry Association) and more.
  • Present and future status of metal, steel and machineries industry under coordination of the State-Owned Enterprises Minister in relation with the Master Plan - Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesia Economic Development 2011 - 2025 (MP3EI) (22 February, organized by GAMMA)
