In our days, the high quality requirements of the automotive industry call for a complete and documented inspection of foundry products. In the day-to-day foundry routine, cost-intensive manual double inspections are still no rarities.
So far, 3D-acquisition techniques in foundries are used in particular for random examination in the measuring department. But meanwhile this technology can also be used for 100% inline-inspection and measuring of castings. First robot supported and highly flexible installations run successfully. The used technique of 'laser line triangulation' provides 3D information to cover full surface defect control as well as measurement functionalities for production accuracy verification. This utmost flexible and proven technology will be shown at GIFA 2011: The all-side surface inspection of complex castings through the robot supported system ‚3D-FLEX-INSPECTOR'.
