"efficiency through innovation in castings" 16.+17.10.12 in Kassel, Germany

Every fall, the Carl Hanser Verlag organizes this meeting with different topics in the field of lightweight castings. Complete success this year was the number of participants increasing from 60 to 87 and the 13 contributions were presented by representatives of prominent OEMs, Foundries, SMEs and research aspects of the part and process development as well as issues in the field of tool and plant engineering.

The traditional evening get-together was a great way to interact extensively among experts. The conclusion of the conference was the visit of the Volkswagen foundry - the largest alloy die-casting foundry in Europe - with interesting insights including thixomolding.

The realization of efficient vehicle concepts is the focus of today's innovations in the automotive sector. Regardless of future drive concepts, the requirement is to reduce weight at the same time intelligent lightweight constructions throughout the entire vehicle leads to low consumption and high driving dynamics.

In particular, the Die casting process offers great potential for the implementation of numerous lightweight construction concepts in powertrain and structure. The increasing demand for Die casting components requires the use of more efficient production processes and makes high demands in terms of process, tools, and systems engineering.

Against this background, the conference engages "lightweight cast" on innovative developments for the implementation of efficient Die casting technologies, and offers an excellent opportunity for interdisciplinary exchange.
