For the first time, KDIC and LK have co-organized an annual golf championship event. The golf championship was successfully held at the Cygnuss Country Club. There were more than 50 committee players from KDIC attended the event. The event aimed to carry forward the spirit of golf, providing a welcoming environment against the pandemic of COVID-19 and the global economic crisis.

LK’s co-operation with Korea
South Korea is one of the largest casting producers and automotive manufacturers. In 2015, the founder of LK, Mr. Liu, was appointed president of Hong Kong Foundry Association. He has always been actively promoting exchanges and co-operation in the aspects of technical expertise and industry information between the KDIC and related industry, so as to facilitate the sustainable development of related enterprises and to help companies grasp the opportunities arising from the rapid economic growth.

In 2020, LK took the opportunity to commission two die-casting units,  6000T and 4000T, from a customer in Korea. The die-casting machines were ordered for its factory in Vietnam, and the 4000T machine is currently in the process of being installed and commissioned. It utilizes semi-solid metallurgy processing to produce 5G telecom structure components for a well-known international Korean communication company. The 6000T machine is expected to start production in early 2021.

Tackling the global economic crisis with the KDIC
Jang Seok-ki, KDIC Chairman: "Currently, the Korean automotive die casting manufacturing market is facing a period of transition from traditional fuel vehicles to electric vehicles. Although the number of traditional die-casting parts has decreased, the demands of electric components have gradually expanded from the chassis, body, and other structural parts. It is required for a higher standard to the large-scale die-casting equipment.”

In response to the outbreak of COVID-19, the seminar reported that there are opportunities to drive up the demand for large die casting machines to produce electric vehicle components, including promoting the launch of smart factories, which utilize the industry 4.0 concept and digitalization to remain competitive.

To expand the market of electric vehicle structural parts, there must be a strategic plan to ensure sustainable competitiveness on talent development. At this moment, the whole industry is eager for professional recruitment. Furthermore, they decided to cope with specialist education institutions to be in charge of that. Actively pursuing professional development ensures that knowledge and skills stay relevant and up to date. It also allows employees to be more aware of changing trends and directions in an industry.

In 2020, the global die-casting market gained momentum as the emerging industries such as automotive lightweight, new energy vehicles, 5G communications, and the capacity is still considerable. LK Group will continue to further co-operate KDIC to promote technological advances and development of the die-casting industry in Asia.
