The new state-of-the-art HPDC facility, will produce structural components and complex powertrain components for the Mexican and U.S. markets.

Nemak, a global leading supplier of highly complex aluminum components for the auto industry, announced today that it will build a new plant in García, Nuevo León, in northeastern Mexico. Availability of technical and human resources, and integration with existing manufacturing facilities were key drivers behind the choice of location.

The plant will require the investment of approximately U.S. $125 million. It will incorporate state-of-the-art High Pressure Die Casting (HPDC) technology for the production of 2.2 million parts per year that will supply assembly lines in Mexico and the U.S. It will create more than 500 new direct jobs. The plant will be Nemak’s seventh at the García site and the 36th in its entire system across 15 countries.

“This facility represents a key development in the execution of our strategy”, commented Armando Tamez, Nemak’s CEO. “It will strengthen our capacity to produce core powertrain components like engine blocks and complex transmission cases. Also, we will have the capacity to produce structural components, which have become an emerging source for the OEMs to reduce vehicle weight and comply with more stringent regulations on fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions,” he added.

The new plant will feature the most advanced manufacturing processes and technologies of the industry already existing in some of Nemak’s plants in North America and Europe, which enhance the company’s capacity to launch programs at a global scale with enough flexibility to meet the regional needs of its customers.
