"The New Silk Road Initiative of China must not accompany Europe as a spectator. Rather, it is important for the EU to have its own approach which contributes to a better connection between Europe and Asia and which takes into account the many dimensions of connection: Trade routes, transport networks, energy networks and digital networks, but also the relationships between people.
The EU Commission's connectivity strategy is the right approach.
For the model of a new Silk Road must not become a one-way street for the countries concerned that does not open up any decision-making options for the development of infrastructure. The connectivity strategy of the EU Commission is therefore the right approach for an alternative offer to the "Chinese way".
