Express News Service reported that, with an aim to expedite land acquisition process and finalize the rehabilitation package of the people to be affected by POSCO, CMD of IDCO Mr Priyabrata Patnaik has conducted a review meeting with the district administration and POSCO officials.

Though the ministry of environment and forests had given clearance for acquiring forest land for the proposed steel plant, district administration has not yet started the land acquisition process due to stiff resistance from locals.

Realizing the ground reality, it was also decided to clear revenue land and forest land from encroachers in the first phase. After acquisition of those lands, administration would interfere to acquire private land from Dhinkia and Gobindapur villages.

Administration would seek the cooperation of the affected villagers to expedite land acquisition process for which another meeting with the affected people will be conducted at Paradip as soon as possible where every thing will be finalized in the presence of IDCO CMD.

The POSCO officials have sought the cooperation of district administration to demolish betel vine and cashew crops from forest land for which the district administration decided to discuss the matter with villagers to compensate the loss of betel vine farms. District Collector Mr Gyanranjan Dash decided to fix the rate of compensation towards the loss of betel vine at INR 10,000 per decimal but POSCO officials agreed to give INR 8,000 per decimal.
