Production pruning -Norsk Hydro to close German smelter

Reading time: min

It is reported that Norsk Hydro has decided to continue the production curtailment process at its primary aluminum plant in Neuss due to weak market conditions and high energy costs for the smelter. The plant has an annual production capacity of 230,000 tonnes. As per report, a controlled reduction in production, making the main parts of the plant ready for mothballing, will take about two months. The Neuss smelter has already reduced production by 30,000 tonnes per year. However, it has decided to further reduce primary aluminum production by totally mothballing the electrolysis, unless there is a marked improvement in market conditions. The foundry of Hydro Norsk with 140 employees at Germany still goes on.
