After the retirement of Prof. Klaus Eigenfeld in Fall 2013, the professorship for Foundry Technology at the Foundry Institute at TU Bergakademie Freiberg was taken over by Prof. Gotthard Wolf on August 1st 2014.

Gotthard Wolf studied at RWTH Aachen and worked at Mahle Ventiltrieb GmbH in Stuttgart, followed by the Institute for Foundry Technology (IfG) in Düsseldorf. “The decisive point for accepting the professorship call at Bergakademie Freiberg was the extraordinarily good scientific environment for teaching and research in the field of foundry technology” as Gotthard Wolf explains. Also, the concept of close connections between research areas within the faculty and university has assured the 56-year old in his decision. Wolf is looking forward to leading research in the field of foundry technology which will have perfect conditions, especially due to the available infrastructure including newly renovated institute and laboratory facilities. The TU Bergakademie Freiberg is equipped with the largest experimental foundry shop of German speaking Universities.

Prof. Wolf will focus his research on innovative process technologies and optimization of foundry processes and his teaching on foundry process technology and factory planning. As a key topic, the energy and material efficiency in foundries will be included – a problem affecting the entire foundry branch. Closely related is the topic of process automation.
