Rheinmetall subsidiary KSPG books new orders for exhaust flaps

Emission reduction components for international automakers

KSPG, a member of the Rheinmetall Group, has booked several major new orders with a lifetime volume of €200 million from three European and Asian automakers. All of these orders are for exhaust flaps, which are becoming increasingly important in the chain of emission control components, particularly in pollution level Euro 6 applications.

Developed by KSPG subsidiary Pierburg, these electrically controlled flaps will be produced at the company’s plant in Ústí nad Labem in the Czech Republic starting in 2016.

In modern engines, exhaust flaps help to reduce harmful emissions in a number of different ways. They increase the necessary pressure drop for improving exhaust gas recirculation rates, conduct thermal management for the SCR system, and support regeneration of the diesel particle filter. If required, they can also be used for optimizing the noise level in the exhaust gas system as well as for supporting the engine brake function.
