Schwäbische Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH (SW) is continuing to expand its international presence and has officially opened its own subsidiary in Pune, India, as of April 1, 2025. This strategic move strengthens SW’s local market footprint and ensures that customers can benefit even faster from the company’s smart manufacturing solutions.

The subsidiary, Schwaebische Werkzeugmaschinen India Private Limited, will be headed by Rakesh Patel, and will be responsible for the sales and service of SW’s state-of-the-art CNC machining centers and automation solutions in India. While SW has been active in the Indian market for 18 years through local representatives, the decision to establish a dedicated subsidiary was driven by the desire to be even closer to customers through in-house experts on site.

“Internationalization is part of SW’s DNA. ‘Think global, act local’ is a core element of our international market strategy,” emphasizes Dr. Daniel Rieser, Managing Director of Sales and Marketing at SW. “Direct communication with our customers is indispensable. This requires trusted business relationships and a strong local service team.”

India as a Strategic Growth Market
With the establishment of this subsidiary, the company is taking the next logical step to offer Indian customers service and sales support directly within the country. As Dr. Rieser explains, the country’s high degree of industrialization and growing demand for intelligent manufacturing technologies make India a key market for the SW Group. Pune, in particular, was chosen for its strategic significance: the city is emerging as a hub for industrial parks, is home to numerous suppliers and production facilities, and offers not only expanding infrastructure but also a large pool of highly skilled workers.

Multi-Spindle Machines as Growth Drivers
As a market leader in multi-spindle machining centers, SW recognizes the opportunities offered by the country’s booming economy. “India presents an excellent opportunity for SW to grow alongside the local economy—particularly in the sectors of automotive, aerospace, medical technology, e-mobility, and two-wheeler industries,” explains Rakesh Patel, Managing Director in Pune. “SW’s Smart Manufacturing Solutions perfectly address the demand for fast, efficient, and high-volume production processes.”

SW now operates a wide range of international subsidiaries, including locations in the USA, China, France, Italy, Poland, Hungary, Mexico, and South Korea. “Every market has its own specific characteristics,” says Dr. Rieser. “That’s why having experienced sales teams on the ground is so valuable in supporting SW’s international expansion.”

The new subsidiary in Pune marks another milestone in SW’s mission to establish expertise and know-how from Waldmössingen on a global scale.
