ThyssenKrupp Elevator Italia SpA, a subsidiary of ThyssenKrupp Elevator AG, has received an order to supply 88 escalators and 41 elevators for 14 stations of the new Metro Line C in Rome. This is the biggest contract ever awarded in the Italian elevator sector.

Metro Line C is currently under construction in the Italian capital. It will be 25.5 kilometers in length and have 30 stations. The local transit authorities expect it to be used by around 600,000 passengers per day.

Dr Olaf Berlien CEO of ThyssenKrupp Elevator AG said that "The fact that we have won this record contract in Italy is due not just to our high product quality and the excellent service we offer for all our products. Our extensive branch office and service network as well as the closeness to customers it provides also played a big part."

The supply and installation of the escalators and elevators for Metro Line C in Rome represents a further major order for ThyssenKrupp Elevator in Italy. It has already supplied 19 elevators and 16 moving walks for the modernization of Milan’s central train station. A total of 27 elevators and five platform lifts from ThyssenKrupp Elevator will also feature in Italy’s tallest office building, the Lombardy regional government headquarters in Milan, once it is completed at the end of 2009. They will include Italy’s fastest elevators, capable of reaching speeds of 8 meters per second.
