Emirates Business 24|7 reported UAE, which does not release its production figures to the World Steel Association, has witnessed an increase in production during the past few months. A senior official of Emirates Steel recently told Emirates Business that the production at the Abu Dhabi based steel mill had peaked last month registering highest figures so far 2009.

Mr Hussein Al Nowais chairman of Emirates Steel, speaking after the signing of a contract with Danieli Corporation for construction of phase II B of the company's expansion plan, said August witnessed the highest production level ever so far. Mr Al Nowais said that "Last month was our highest month of production and we reached 170,000 tonnes. Te increase in production is in line with demand in the UAE. Obviously we produced more in August because there was demand.”

Similarly RAK Steel, which also cut production during the onset of the crisis, said that its output increased during the past few months. Mr Ajay Aggarwal CEO of RAK Steel said that “August had a better production level compared to July. We have been going steady without any major production cuts during the past two months. With Ramadan behind us, we are expecting demand in the UAE to pick up.”
