US - ThyssenKrupp Materials NA invests USD 13 million in new Alabama plant

Southfield supplier ThyssenKrupp Materials North America announced that it is investing USD 13 million to build a new materials processing and distribution center in Woodstock in Alabama.

The new facility is part of the Coil Processing Group of ThyssenKrupp which provides production materials such as aluminum, stainless, copper, brass, specialty metals, steel, and plastics for the auto industry as well as commercial food equipment, HVAC equipment and consumer durable goods. The German company also offers storage, delivery services and other supply chain management services.

The new Alabama plant will employ 20 people initially with hiring to start early next year. Employment will grow to 45 in 5 years to support metal and steel operations in the area.

The 100,000 square foot facility will have four lines to process materials such as carbon steel, aluminum and stainless steel for Ken Mac Metals and ThyssenKrupp Steel Services customers. There is room to expand by an additional 150,000 square feet in the future.

Mr Hans Josef Hoss CEO of ThyssenKrupp Materials North America said that "The decision to locate our Coil Processing Group’s newest processing and distribution center in Alabama reflects the economic vitality and extensive opportunities that exist in the Southern United States."

He added that "Many of our top customers, including Original Equipment Manufacturers, have plants and facilities in Alabama and the surrounding states and require just in time processing and delivery. Our goal is to further enhance their supply chains by building this new facility right here in Woodstock."
