ETOWAH, Tenn. — A slowdown in orders from the auto industry is behind a delay for the Phase II expansion of the Waupaca foundry in Etowah, owner ThyssenKrupp Waupaca Inc. announced.
The foundry manufactures ductile iron castings used for the production of brake calipers, brake supports and automotive chassis components. It also produces gray iron castings for rotors and brake drums in cars and heavy trucks.
ThyssenKrupp is spending $54.1 million in the first phase of the expansion to install automated equipment and a new molding line for rotor castings, according to a news release. That project is expected to be complete at the end of April.
The second phase would add a new building containing two state-of-the-art ductile iron production lines, the release stated.
But that has been delayed until at least June of 2010 because of a drop in orders, the release stated.
The company will assess market conditions before going forward with Phase II, the release stated.
