Reading time: min

Layoff plans at Fort Wayne Foundry Corp. will cut deeper than indicated early this month. According to notices filed with the state's Department of Workforce Development this week, 174 employees at the company's Lima Road division will be laid off sometime in June, along with 52 workers at its machining division at the same time.

At the Lima Road operation, workers who will be laid off include 156 hourly workers and 18 salaried. At the machining division, layoffs will include 47 hourly and five salaried employees. The company makes aluminum engine parts and says the cuts are due to the downturn in the automotive industry. The company operates two plants in Fort Wayne and one in Columbia City.
