USA - Foundry looks to new markets

Reading time: min

A 120-year-old foundry in Walsall is hunting for new business in hybrid vehicles in a bid to turn around its dwindling fortunes.
Chamberlin and Hill Castings Ltd, based in Chuckery Street, was forced to make 30 staff redundant before Christmas and reduce the remaining staff's working week to three days.
"We are weathering the turndown in demand from the European automobile industry and the foundry is on a reduced working week," said liaison officer Dave Morgan.
"We are though having some success in talks concerning components for the next phase of vehicle – hybrids. "These are in their initial phases at the moment but the long term future looks advantageous.
