USA - Lufkin Industries lays off 47

Reading time: min

Lufkin Industries laid off 47 employees on Tuesday, a company spokesman said. The layoff included hourly and salaried workers, and was a result of reduced levels of business in the Oilfield Division, said Vice President Paul Perez. Foundry employees are working three days a week work schedules also as a result of reduced requirements for oilfield work, Perez said.

The company laid off 92 employees in mid-April in response to continuing decreases in demand across the oilfield service industry. Seventy-seven were laid off at the foundry in mid-March, after 173 were laid off in the oilfield earlier that same month. In January, 53 oilfield division workers lost their positions.
